Tools / Drizzle

Drizzle is a TypeScript ORM that treats SQL as the primary interface: you declare your schema in TypeScript, then build queries with a typed query builder or write raw SQL where you want it. It supports PostgreSQL (plus hosted variants like Neon, Supabase, Vercel Postgres, PlanetScale Postgres, and AWS Data API), MySQL, and SQLite, and is designed to work in serverless and edge environments. The project includes Drizzle Kit, a CLI for generating, pushing, and pulling migrations, and Drizzle Studio, a browser-based UI for browsing your database. Schema features cover indexes, constraints, sequences, views, row-level security, generated columns, and custom types. On the query side you get joins, transactions, batch APIs, read replicas, caching hooks, and a `sql` template operator for raw fragments. Drizzle integrates with validation libraries (zod, valibot, typebox, arktype, effect-schema) for schema-derived validation, and ships an ESLint plugin and a GraphQL extension. The docs site includes guides, tutorials, a gotchas page, and published benchmarks. The project is open source on GitHub (35k+ stars per the homepage) and is backed by PlanetScale. A v1.0 beta with a new alternation engine is available for testing.
Drizzle is an ORM for TypeScript where the schema is declared in TypeScript files and queries are built with a typed API that stays close to SQL. You can drop down to raw SQL at any point using the sql template operator, so the ORM doesn't force you away from the database's own capabilities.
PostgreSQL is the headline database, with dedicated connection guides for Neon, Supabase, Vercel Postgres, PlanetScale Postgres, Prisma Postgres, Xata, PGLite, Nile, Bun SQL, AWS Data API, and others. MySQL and SQLite are also supported. The docs include a section on serverless performance, and the project markets itself as edge-compatible.
Drizzle Kit is the companion CLI. Its commands cover the migration lifecycle: generate creates migration files from schema changes, migrate applies them, push syncs schema directly, pull introspects an existing database, and there are also check, up, export, and studio commands. Custom migrations and team workflows are documented separately.
Drizzle Studio is a visual interface for exploring your data, available from the site or via the kit CLI.
Drizzle can generate validators from your schema for zod, valibot, typebox, arktype, and effect-schema. There's an official ESLint plugin and a community drizzle-graphql extension.
Drizzle is open source under the drizzle-team GitHub org with 35k+ stars. The team publishes benchmarks, a gotchas page, and a sustainability doc. Version 1.0 is in beta, and the site provides upgrade guides covering v0 to v1 changes and relational query API changes. The project is backed by PlanetScale and accepts sponsorships via GitHub Sponsors. There's an active Discord community and a Twitter/X presence under @DrizzleORM.
